Perceptions of Child Abuse and Neglect in Hawaiʻi
|

|
Through our partnership with the Hawai‘i Children’s Trust Fund, the Joyful Heart Foundation commissioned research demonstrating the effects of child abuse and neglect in Hawai‘i.

Through this research, we learned critical information on the perceptions of child abuse and neglect throughout the islands, statistics of those impacted by child abuse and information on levels of reporting and forms of response.
This research—coupled with the evidence of the protective factors that reduce harm and strengthen families—formed the foundation of the strengths-based approach to the One Strong ‘Ohana campaign.

In June 2011, the Hawai‘i Children’s Trust Fund and the Joyful Heart Foundation formally released this research in collaboration with our exclusive media partners—Hawaii News Now, Cox Media Group, the Honolulu Star Advertiser and MidWeek—generating over 200,000 media impressions. Joyful Heart also hosted an educational webinar with over 150 Hawai‘i community and social service partners.
