The New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project (AVP) is the nation's largest crime-victim service agency for the lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, and HIV-affected (LGTBH) communities. Since AVP's founding in 1980, they have assisted thousands of crime victims every year, from all five boroughs of the city.
AVP offers free and confidential support to victims of bias crimes, domestic violence, pick-up crimes, police misconduct, HIV-related violence, rape, and sexual assault. Individual and group counseling is available at AVP, while a bilingual (English/Spanish) crisis hotline offers 24-hour assistance from counselors and trained volunteers. In addition, AVP provides accompaniments and advocacy for our clients with the police, the courts, medical, and social service agencies.
AVP's hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Their professional counselors and trained volunteers offer emotional and practical support to victims of violence. We advise victims on issues such as how to obtain and enforce orders of protection, fight employment discrimination, and stop abusive landlords or neighbors. The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) is an organization working at the state and national levels to prevent sexual violence. Incepted in 1975, PCAR continues to use its voice to challenge public attitudes, raise public awareness, and effect critical changes in public policy, protocols, and responses to sexual violence.
To provide quality services to victims/survivors of sexual violence and their significant others, PCAR works in concert with its statewide network of 52 rape crisis centers. The centers also work to create public awareness and prevention education within their communities.

About The Center for Anti-Violence Education
Since 1974, The Center for Anti-Violence Education (CAE) has provided self-defense and violence-prevention workshops and courses throughout the New York City area. CAE is a feminist, community-based nonprofit organization that brings a commitment to fighting racism and homophobia to all its work. We offer classes, courses, and workshops for adult and teen-age women, and children. Annie Ellman, CAE's Co-Founder and Executive Director, is a nationally recognized authority in violence-prevention and self-defense.
Many women who are survivors of sexual abuse, incest, sexual assault, childhood abuse and domestic violence have participated in CAE's programs and found new ways to heal from past abuse, as well as ways to nurture their bodies, minds, and spirits. Qualified women instructors who are sensitive to and respectful of the emotional needs of survivors teach all courses, classes, and workshops. One in Four, Inc. previously NO MORE is dedicated to prevent rape by the thoughtful application of theory and research to rape prevention programming. NO MORE provides presentations, training, and technical assistance to men and women, with a focus on all-male programming targeted toward colleges, high schools, the military, and local community organizations. NO MORE also serves as an umbrella organization and support system for all-male sexual assault peer education groups who call themselves "One in Four" chapters. They distribute educational videos to organizations nationwide. In addition, No MORE sponsors the "One in Four" national tour, whereby professional peer-educators travel nationwide to present rape prevention programs to boys and men.
