In eight short years, 1in6 has established itself as a leading voice engaging individuals and organizations to enhance understanding about the far-reaching consequences of untreated childhood sexual abuse for men and for those who care about them. Our careful nurturance of key partnerships has helped make it possible to inspire increased services to support men who had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences in childhood to live healthier, happier lives. We’re very grateful for the ongoing support and collaboration from the Joyful Heart Foundation, RAINN, Big Voice Pictures and so many others to help our mission succeed. Thanks for the warm wishes.

We’re stronger together. This simple truth drives so much of our work at Joyful Heart—knowing that the greater the number of people who lift the weight, the lighter the load that each individual must carry. Knowing that the crimes of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse leave so much isolation in their wake—isolation that together, we can help break. Knowing that much-needed conversations about these issues in our homes, workplaces, campuses and communities cannot happen alone. We are grateful to our partner, 1in6, an organization that we have been so proud to work with over the last three years, for their courageous work in helping to break survivors’ isolation and spark conversation about the sexual abuse of men and boys.

From partnering to bring nearly 100,000 pieces of informational material on this issue into the hands of survivors and service providers across the country, to creating a PSA seen by millions during a #NOMORE excuses marathon on USA, to producing a series of NO MORE print ads to challenge the notion that men and boys cannot be survivors, we’ve been proud to stand with 1in6 to make these issues topics for open discussion and create a space for survivors. Every week that 1in6 shares the thoughtful and inspired posts you read here on our website, we are all the more grateful to be a part of their work to drive awareness of and support for one in six men are survivors of an unwanted or abusive sexual experience.

Congratulations to our friends and colleagues of 1in6 for eight years of bringing hope and inspiration. I’m honored to do this work together.

We often have well-intentioned and passionate people approach us when embarking on the nonprofit journey but we watch as many flounder or get discouraged by the lack of funding or support. This would certainly not be the case for the dedicated team at 1in6.

1in6 approached RAINN because they knew that men who had experienced unwanted or abusive sexual experiences in childhood would probably feel more comfortable seeking help online and they saw RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Online Hotline as the perfect model. We worked with the amazing board and staff at 1in6 to create a custom-built, secure and anonymous Online SupportLine for men to connect to the help that they need and deserve. Since its launch in 2009 the 1in6 Online SupportLine, operated by RAINN, has served over 2,700 men and their loved ones who were able to receive help when they needed it most.

Our work with 1in6 has been one of our most meaningful partnerships.

The 1in6 staff and leadership refuse to settle for anything less than excellence when it comes to their services, their approach and their goals. I can’t wait to see the amazing things that this organization accomplishes in the next eight years.

As we reflect on a lunch we had eight years ago with their Executive Director — just prior to 1in6’s launch–we’re amazed by the progress 1in6 has made these past years in offering much needed services and resources for men who had unwanted sexual experiences in childhood. Thank you for our continued collaboration. We couldn’t have created such stellar outreach and awareness raising campaigns without you!
