New York Yankees pitcher, CC Sabathia, joined other celebrities on the floor of Bloomberg Tradebook today to raise money for charity.

Sabathia’s foundation, PitCCH In, aids underprivileged inner city youth and is sponsoring a 6-participant running team that will be raising a minimum of $5,000 each when the New York Marathon is run next month. After Super Storm Sandy sidelined the marathon in 2012, the event is set to return on Nov. 3.

“It is a huge part of New York to be involved with the marathon, and the people running the race on our team are tremendous ambassadors who share a sense of giving back with us," Sabathia told reporters after interacting with Bloomberg clients from its Lexington Ave terminals.

Other celebrities taking part included Chris Noth (Labyrinth Theater Company), Petra Nemcova (Only Make Believe), Mariska Hargitay (Joyful Heart Foundation) and Sean “Diddy” Combs (Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship).

The celebrities and local icons each “manned the phones” next to licensed traders today, interacting with those looking to make transactions and signing autographs for those in attendance. All net commissions that were generated by trades that filtered through the celebrities’ terminals were donated to the charity of said star’s choice.

"We look at our work in the community not as something we should do,” said Sabathia, “but it's something we must do, to find every way to give back, especially when it involves young people. Coming to Bloomberg to help them raise funds and awareness, especially for young people, was a real pleasure."

The total amount of money raised today will be available on Tuesday, according to a Bloomberg representative.
