The Joyful Heart Foundation was founded in 2004 by an American actress, Mariska Hargitay, and is intended to help survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse to heal and reclaim their lives. She started the foundation in response to her newfound appreciation for the extent of prevalence of the under-recognized issues when she started playing Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit over a decade ago.

The Joyful Heart Foundation Gala 2013 was held on 42nd Street in New York City on Thursday evening, May 9th. The event was sponsored by a number of well-known companies including Pepsi Cola Company, Michael Stars, Verizon Communications, The Art of Grace, and Wolf Films among many others. The founder, Mariska Hargitay, was joined at the event by her husband, Peter Hermann, and a number of celebrities including Danny Pino, Mary J. Blige, Jemima Kirke, Will Chase, Julianne Hough, Christopher Meloni, Uma Thurman, Mary Louise Parker, Glenn Close, and Harry Connick Jr. just to name a few.

Julianne Hough wore a stunning white fit and flare Calvin Klein mini dress to the Foundation's gala, completing her mesmerizing look with Jacob Arabov's Round Brilliant Cut Diamond Stud Earrings with micro-pave set diamond martini setting by Jacob & Co. The 24-year-old actress was among the stars in attendance sharing her own story of being abused as a young girl while studying dance at the prestigious Italia Conti Academy of Arts in London. She graced the event to encourage people not to be afraid to face their future despite suffering many abuses in the past, because the past will allow them to become a stronger person. Another star in attendance who chose to wear a beautiful creation by the brand's head designer himself, Jacob Arabov, was Debra Messing. The 44-year-old actress channeled the "take a risk" theme of the 2013 Joyful Heart Foundation Gala wearing the stunning palladium Blue Sapphire Chandelier Pendant necklace by Jacob & Co., featuring over 12 carats of sapphires and more than 5 carats of diamonds. Wearing a navy blue sleeveless jumpsuit, the Smash star attended the event with her boyfriend and former co-star, Will Chase.
