The star personally delivered books and school supplies to children of abuse at Safe Horizon.

Monday afternoon, Mariska Hargitay, star of NBC’s long-running Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU), packaged hundreds of healing kits for abused children at Safe Horizon’s Manhattan Child Advocacy Center. Hargitay’s SVU co-star Danny Pino also took part to help stuff kits full of books, school supplies, and other essentials for children in need.

Spearheading the project and personally delivering each kit was part of a pact Hargitay made with New Yorkers who logged onto KINDMovement.com to take part in the “Do the KIND thing” initiative to support her own Joyful Heart Foundation. “When I began my role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, my eyes were opened to the staggering statistics of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse,” said Hargitay. “I founded Joyful Heart with the intention of helping survivors heal and reclaim their lives. With the support of Do the KIND Thing, I know we’ll be able to make a tangible difference in the lives of survivors at child advocacy centers.”
