While Grey's Anatomy is known for its wacky, even sometimes funny, medical cases, Shonda Rhimes isn't afraid of facing more prevalent, serious issues head-on when she wants to —  Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Cristina's (Sandra Oh) arguments over abortion are proof of that. 

Now, Sandra Oh tells TV Guide that Grey's will tackle another important topic later in Season 8.



Sandra, who spoke to TV Guide while attending a benefit for the Joyful Heart Foundation, a charity that supports survivors of sexual assault, said that Grey's will feature a storyline dealing with the topic.



"We're dealing with a very dramatic side of this issue.

"

Kim Raver (Teddy Altman) explained that it's a topic that "touches all of us, even if we don't know that it does," adding, "I think the fact that we're discussing it is the first step to aiding it."



We have faith that Shonda will handle this story, whatever the details end up being, with intelligence and sensitivity.
