On November 15, 2016, Joyful Heart Foundation’s GenerationJOY committee hosted its first TALK event. GenerationJOY is a group of next generation advocates committed to using their voices and resources to support Joyful Heart’s vision of a world free from sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.
On December 1, 2016, 40 members of our tri-state-based community gathered at the home of Joyful Heart board member Sukey Novogratz and her husband, Mike, for a TALK event. Nancy Jo Sales, author of American Girls: Social Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagers, discussed how social media shapes and influences the minds and hearts of young girls, and its connection to violence against women.
Sukey started the program by welcoming the guests, including fellow board members Jessica Ambrose, Durk Barnhill, Mariska Hargitay, Danielle Herzlich, and Debbie Millman.
On September 28, 40 members of our joyful community gathered at the Belushi residence to TALK with our featured speaker, Nancy Jo Sales, who presented on her latest book, American Girls: Social Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagers.
The event was opened by our Los Angeles Committee co-chairs and board members, Jenny Belushi and Heather Mnuchin, who set the context for the discussion and linked the book’s content to Joyful Heart’s work to transform society’s response to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.
Our December TALK event in New York City brought together members of our community with members of the sports community to discuss how to advance sports culture and engage men to end violence.
On Monday, March 30, Joyful Heart held our first TALK event on the East Coast in the Washington, D.C. area at the beautiful home of Jaime and Andrew Schwartzberg.
Inspired by Joyful Heart's series of TALK STORY discussions in Hawai‘i, TALK LA was a call out to men, and in particular men—as parents, teachers, coaches, role models—to talk and help end this violence and raising the next generation of men to live with respect.
On November 12th, Joyful Heart staff members were joined by members of the Hawai'i Hearts to TALK STORY as part of our on-going series to shed the light on and engage in thoughtful conversation about issues surrounding sexual assault and domestic violence.
