More than 150 guests joined the GenerationJOY committee and Joyful Heart staff on August 3 to celebrate the healing power of art at ART4JOY, an art show and auction. The event was held at the Manhattan office and rooftop garden of Cookfox Architects, who generously donated the event space.

Guests mingled and placed bids on art donated by over 60 artists from across the United States, as well as from England, Germany, India, Italy, and France. GenerationJOY committee member, Brooke Rahaman, shared the committee’s work and commitment to fulfill Joyful Heart’s vision of a world free of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. Joyful Heart Managing Director Sarah Haacke Byrd talked about Joyful Heart’s Healing, Education, and Advocacy programs.

The event highlighted Joyful Heart’s focus on healing—a one of the organization’s three program areas— and the core of its work to support survivors. Joyful Heart’s holistic approach includes using art to help survivors move forward in their healing journey. Survivors can paint or make collages to better connect with their thoughts and feelings.

Guests were encouraged to celebrate the healing power of art by writing words of encouragement, support, and hope to survivors and place the notes on a “Tree of Joy,” which featured the Joyful Heart logo. Top Notch Events provided bar service and David Alan Caterers passed hors d’oeuvres and platters they donated for the evening.

Joyful Heart is deeply grateful to the more than 60 artists who contributed their work for their generosity and their tremendous role in making ART4JOY a success. View a list of the artists.
