Joyful Heart Foundation x Me&Ro Hosted by GenerationJOY
In honor of Mother’s Day, next generation advocates Sophia Schrager, Ava Schrager, Emma Lasry, Ana Novogratz, and Gaby Novogratz hosted a Me&Ro shopping event on Sunday April 10th at the home of Rita Schrager to benefit the Joyful Heart Foundation’s transformative work. Other guests included: Phoebe Cates, Gary Cohn, Lisa Pevaroff Cohn, Alessandra Garcia, Anne McNally, Sukey Novogratz and Ian Schrager.
Me&Ro has been a proud supporter of the Joyful Heart Foundation since its inception in 2004. A special selection of jewelry debuted at the pop-up shop including items from the brand’s Joyful Heart collection as well as their 25th anniversary collection featuring limited-edition ebony and gold pieces. Fans of the TV series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit recognized the symbolic Fearlessness pendant and Lotus Mandala necklace, which are worn by the Joyful Heart Foundation’s Founder & President, Mariska Hargitay, in her role as Lieutenant Olivia Benson. Over the past 12 years of partnership, Me&Ro has donated more than $700,000 from the sales of the Joyful Heart collection, and almost $10,000 was donated from the sales of this event.
The event was also a celebration of maternal figures and the inspiration they’ve offered younger generations. As hosts Sophia and Ava Schrager said:
“For as long as we can remember, our mother and grandmother stressed the importance of speaking up for what we believe in. When we heard about the revolutionary work that Joyful Heart was doing, we knew that we had to find a way to get involved and contribute; this event was the perfect way”.
Robin Renzi, Designer and Founder of Me&Ro added:
It’s been such a privilege to support the Joyful Heart Foundation from the beginning, both monetarily and by giving both women and men symbols of courage to wear after they have faced traumatic events in their lives. As a mother myself, it is important for me to show my daughter just how important it is to give back in a meaningful way, which is why I brought her to the event with me.”
The event also launched Joyful Heart’s new initiative, GenerationJOY, a committee of next generation advocates who are committed to using their voices and resources to work towards Joyful Heart’s vision of a world free of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.
Emma Lasry, another host, commented:
I've found that people our age get intimidated and feel like they can't make a difference. But in planning this event, we realized that starting the conversation about these issues—which are so hard to talk about—at a young age is an effective and easy way to help remove the stigma”.
Anna and Gaby Novogratz share a similar view:
Our mother, Sukey Novogratz, is on the board of Joyful Heart and is a staunch advocate. This event was a great way for us to not only show her how much we admire and are inspired by her, but to share this work with our own community and friends”.
