Tag & Chase - Help JHF Win Up To $500,000 Tagging Friends
Dear Joyful Heart Supporters,
Here’s a new technique for helping to promote JHF’s bid in Chase Community Giving that should help you encourage your friends and family to participate.
First off, we want to thank Don P. for this suggestion. Secondly, if you haven't already voted for Joyful Heart in the competition, please visit www.tinyurl.com/votejoy and cast your vote. We'll wait right here while you do. :)
This post is called "Chase and Tag" because we’re going to use the photo tagging function to drive friends to vote for JHF in Chase Community Giving. Any time someone is tagged, they get a notification that says "X has tagged you in a photo." Now who could resist wanted to check out that photo to see if they look good or want to un-tag themselves? Plus, tagging a friend adds the image to their Wall, so there’s a good chance their friends will see it too.
There are a few steps involved, so take a couple deep breaths and let’s get to work.
1. First, you’ll need some pictures to tag. You can use any photos you like, but for this effort, we’re recommending you use some related to our BIG IDEA: ending the backlog of untested rape kits. Try downloading the images below. Save them all in a folder on your desktop for easy access.
2. Next, you need to create a new photo album on your profile. Click the Profile tab (a) in the top right of your screen. You should see your own profile Wall. Then click the Photos link (b) under your profile picture.
3. Then click the + Upload Photos button (c) in the top right corner. A dialog box should open asking you to select photos. Click the Select Photos (d) button to proceed. If you have trouble with the uploader in future steps, try using the Try the Simpler Uploader link (e) or read the Facebook help pages on uploading photos that can be found here.
4. At this point, we got distracted and went to post a rallying cry on our Facebook Wall. This is not a necessary step, but feel free to motivate your fellow JHF supporters if you want. ;)
5. Alright, back to the task at hand. Once you click the Select Photos button from the previous step, a window will open. Browse to find the photo(s) you want to upload. Select them all (f) and click Open (g).
6. While your images are uploading, fill in the details in the dialog box. We named our album "Help End the Backlog of Untested Rape Kits" (h), set "United States and Beyond" as the location (i) and opted to share the album with Everyone (j). The more eyes on these pics, the better! Click Create Album (k) to complete this step.
7. Then click the Publish Now button (l) to post the images to your account.
8. Alright, now the fun begins. Click on the picture of the heart-shaped rape kit installation. Click the Add a description link. Drop in the sample text provided below for the relevant picture. It contains an explanation of what the photo is of as well as a call-to-action about voting for JHF in Chase Community Giving. Feel free to customize the messages we’ve provided. Make it personal and explain why this matters to you. Remember, you’re friends and family are about to see this. The click Save (m). The last step is the best part. Click the Tag This Photo link (n). Then start tagging the photo with the names of all the friends you’d like to see the image and encourage to vote. Tag the Joyful Heart Foundation Facebook page if you can so we can see your efforts!
9. There’s a limit to how many friends you can tag in a single photo. When you reach it, click Done Tagging and move on to the next photo in your album. Repeat as many times as you like or for as many friends as you can tag. Your pals will get a notification that they’ve been tagged and will likely view the image. Hopefully, they’ll go vote and a few might repeat this exercise and tag their friends. Be sure to thank your friends who voted. Let them know how much we appreciate their support! Here's the proposed language for each description:
This is what 300 rape kits looks like. This installation is 8 feet wide, 9 feet tall and 2 feet deep. There are estimated to be over 200,000 untested rape kits that are sitting in police and crime lab storage facilities across the US alone. Each represents lost healing and justice for a survivor and most represent a rapist that is walking the streets free. The Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization I am proud to support, is in the running to earn $500,000 to use towards our efforts to end the backlog. You can help by: 1. Voting here: www.tinyurl.com/votejoy 2. Re-posting this photo and message and tagging any or all of your like-minded friends who would consider supporting this effort. Thank you for your time and effort. Please let me know if you'd like to learn more about the backlog or JHF's efforts. More information can be found at www.endthebacklog.org. ~NAME
Each envelope in this display represents a step in a sexual assault evidence collection exam. The contents, which can take between 4 and 6 hours to collect from a recently traumatized victim go into what is commonly known as a rape kit. There are estimated to be over 200,000 untested rape kits that are sitting in police and crime lab storage facilities across the US alone. Each represents lost healing and justice for a survivor and most represent a rapist that is walking the streets free. Each of these boxes represents a sexual assault evidence collection exam, commonly referred to as a "rape kit." Most people think that once a rape victim undergoes an examination, her/his evidence is sent to a lab for testing. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Each represents lost healing and justice for a survivor and most represent a rapist that is walking the streets free.
