Wellness Wednesday: Acai Bowls: 3 Refreshing Recipes

Hi friends,

We at The Well Daily are loving these Acai Bowls lately. Here are a few easy recipes for this refreshing summer treat.

xoxo,

Sukey

You've probably heard about the acai berry, the Brazilian palm fruit that happens to be a powerful little superfood. For centuries, Brazilians have been eating a dish made purely of the berry’s pulp and these days, acai smoothies are pretty popular. Our favorite way to eat acai is a fusion of the two, the Acai Bowl: part smoothie, part delicious treat and the perfect cool breakfast for hot summer days.

You can whip up a tasty and healthy Acai Bowl in your own kitchen. All you need is a blender, a banana, one package of frozen pure acai berry pulp and fruits and toppings of your choice. Just blend to a thick consistency, add toppings for texture and serve with in a bowl with a spoon. Keep in mind, using anything but the raw pulp means you won’t get the berry’s full nutrient power. We like Nativo Raw Acai.

If this kind of culinary creativity seems daunting, just follow one of these three easy recipes.

Berry Delicious Breakfast

  • Blend: 1 packet (100 grams) of acai berry pulp, 1/2 cup soy milk, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup strawberries, 1/2 cup raspberries
  • Top with: 1 cup granola (or your favorite cereal), 1/8 cup sliced strawberries, 1 teaspoon flax seed, drizzle of raw honey

Protein-Packed Sweet Snack (serves 2)

  • Blend: 1 packet (100 grams) of acai berry pulp, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1/2 banana, 1/4 cup natural peanut butter, 1 tbsp raw honey
  • Top with: 1/2 banana, drizzle of melted natural peanut butter, 1 tablespoon shaved dark chocolate

Liquid Green Lunch

  • Blend: 1 packet (100 grams) of acai berry pulp, 4 kale leaves (leave the stems on if you prefer), 1/2 cup pure apple juice, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 thin slice of avocado (optional), 1 tsp fresh ginger, 1 tsp agave nectar
  • Top with: 1 cup granola, 1/4 cup blueberries, 1 teaspoon dried goji berries, 1-2 teaspoons hemp seeds or sunflower seeds

The Well Wisdom:

The rich purple color of the acai berry comes from its high concentration of anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants found in other blue and purple foods like blueberries and red wine. These beautifully hued sweet treats slow the aging process by combatting free radicals (unstable molecules in the body that cause cellular damage, i.e. wrinkles), which is why we're hooked.
