Wellness Wednesday: Taided's Go-To Guacamole

Hi friends,

It's barbecue and picnic season, and this is one of my favorite dishes to serve at a party. Plus, it's got only 6 ingredients, so it's incredibly easy. Enjoy!

In the world of raw foods, it doesn't get much better than good guacamole. I love to make it for parties and keep some around as an everyday snack. You can adjust the heat to your liking by leaving in the jalapeno seeds for more kick or taking them all out for a mild version.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe Hass avocados
  • 2 tablespoons finely minced onions
  • 2 teaspoons finely minced jalapeno
  • 3 tablespoons roughly chopped cilantro
  • 1 small plum tomato, diced into 1/4 inch pieces
  • 1 lime
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. To cut the avocado: hold it in one hand and and cut it lengthwise until you hit the seed. Run the knife around the avocado until you half two halves. Remove the seed by placing the avocado on the cutting board and pressing the knife blade into the seed. Turn the knife, which will loosen the seed and leave it stuck to the blade. Carefully remove the seed from the knife. (Watch the video for a demonstration of this technique.)
  2. Hold one half of the avocado in your hand and make 4 to 5 lengthwise cuts, being careful not to cut the skin. Then make 4 to 5 crosswise cuts, essentially dicing the avocado. Repeat this with the other half. Use a spoon to scoop the avocado into a serving bowl.
  3. Add the onion, jalapeno and cilantro. Mash everything together until evenly mixed. I like to leave the avocado slightly chunky.
  4. Add the tomato, lime juice and a bit of the salt. Stir and taste, then add more salt and lime until the flavor is to your liking.
