Taking on Goliath is a dinner and silent auction benefiting The Joyful Heart Foundation that will take place on October 20, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at The Olmstead here in Louisville. The emcee for the evening is Wave 3’s Scott Reynolds. Entertainment for the night will be provided by live band; Danny Flanigan and The Rain Chorus.

Poll on child abuse finds isle residents hold misconceptions

In Hawaii, 64 percent of residents have difficulty recognizing child abuse, and 2 out of 3 would report abuse to Child Welfare Services if the child is a stranger. This is according to an unprecedented statewide study, released today, jointly commissioned by the Hawaii Children's Trust Fund and the Joyful Heart Foundation.

Your typical posh charity benefit in Manhattan usually includes a celebrity or two, maybe a performance by an artist who was popular in the '90s and a room full of insanely rich (and generous!) people. And while all of the above were at the Museum of Modern Art last night, the benefit for "Law & Order: SVU" star Mariska Hargitay's Joyful Heart organization had a whole lot more.
