MILCK is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and poet. Her song, “Quiet,” is a clarion call for people of all races, creeds, and colors who have suffered and survived gallantly in the face of trauma, trials, and tribulations. MILCK created the #ICANTKEEPQUIET Fund to help build a culture where anyone can find tools to protect against and protest injustice. On Monday November 2, 2015 I completed my book Healing the Man Within. A friend of mine asked me how long it took me to write the book. “Forty-six-years,” I told him. “It has been forty-six-years in the making.”

The piece that I am having trouble with is that my safe space is a place in my mind where no one can reach me, and I am alone there.

I was fighting for my life once again, and this time I would not be defeated.

Wanting to end the feeling of not being loved or accepted by others often is at the heart of addictions, depressions and desperate actions.

It was 28 years ago, in 1987, that I first reported to the Archdiocese of Boston that my parish priest had abused me two decades earlier. I asked that the priest be removed and given help to address his abusive behavior; and that the church make a public effort to find other victims. They told me then they didn’t believe me.

Sexual abuse is a cancer of the soul, and like any cancer; the best cure is love and understanding from family and friends.

By reaching out to young men on college campuses, we will encourage them to begin their recovery processes earlier in life, before negative behaviors and thinking become adult habits.
