Whole Foods Market Kahala Shoppers Raise More Than $1,000 for the One Strong ‘Ohana Campaign

A three-month collaboration between Whole Foods Market Kahala and the Hawai‘i Children’s Trust Fund has raised $1,029 for the One Strong ‘Ohana campaign. From April through June of this year, Whole Foods Market Kahala customers were able to “recycle” their leftover change at registers upon check-out to benefit One Strong ‘Ohana.

Jamba Juice Hawai‘i Donates More Than $6,700 to One Strong ‘Ohana Campaign

The sweet reward of a three-month promotion between Jamba Juice Hawai‘i and the Hawai‘i Children’s Trust Fund has raised more than $6,700 for the trust fund’s One Strong ‘Ohana campaign. From January through March of this year, Jamba Juice Hawai‘i donated 25 cents from every Fit ‘n Fruitful smoothie.

In the United States, nearly four children die every day as a result of child abuse and neglect. More than three quarters of these children are under the age of five and more than 40 percent of young victims won’t live to see their first birthday. In 2010, 4,199 cases of child abuse were reported in Hawaii. And yet, most of these could have been prevented: Studies show that the stronger the support network parents have, the less likely they are to abuse their children.

Nearly half on isle know child abuse victim, study says

The study, "Perceptions of Child Abuse and Neglect in Hawaii," found that 47 percent of Hawaii County residents say they know a victim of child abuse. It also found that 89 percent of Big Islanders believe child abuse is a major problem.
