Speechless

On Thanksgiving day, millions of people got a sneak peak at the new "Speechless" series of NO MORE PSAs featuring NFL players. As we watched—with family and friends gathered to celebrate our blessings— we counted this moment among many that we are truly grateful for this year.

On Wednesday night, the NO MORE “Speechless” PSAs featuring more than a dozen celebrities began rolling out, starting on NBC during Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. They'll start airing on USA starting tomorrow, on Viacom's channels—like MTV, BET and VH1—starting next week, and during NFL broadcasts this season. These PSAs are a raw, unscripted and powerful video collection that shows the candid responses of these men and women as they attempt to talk about sexual assault and domestic violence. They were rendered speechless—and that’s where the inspiration for these spots was born.

When we set out to produce the NO MORE PSAs, “Speechless” was not in our plans. These spots weren’t scripted. They are what happened between takes. "Speechless" shows the compelling, unrehearsed moments behind the scenes that moved us so deeply during these shoots. To share Mariska's words:

"'Speechless' came about as a sort of gift from everyone who showed up so openly and beautifully. We have said often that these issues are hard to talk about, and this was such a clear, raw, unvarnished demonstration of that truth."

We are all affected by sexual assault and domestic violence. Shedding light into the darkness that surrounds these issues is so important to changing societal attitudes—lessening the shame and stigma—and ultimately ending this violence. We are so grateful for and inspired by the courage and commitment of the men and women who have come forward to be a part of the NO MORE PSAs. This collaboration of celebrities, athletes, corporations, foundations and service providers is bringing these issues into the public eye in a way that has never been done before. The spots were developed pro bono by Rachel Howald at the global ad agency Young & Rubicam; produced by Joyful Heart, Viacom Velocity and Viacom’s social responsibility umbrella Viacommunity ; edited by WAX; and photographed by renowned celebrity photographer Timothy White.

Right now, you can help start the conversation by sharing your #NOMORE.

Here are some examples you can personalize to get you started:

There’s no excuse for domestic violence or sexual assault. What’s your #NOMORE?

NO MORE silence. NO MORE excuses. NO MORE violence. What’s your #NOMORE?

I'll sign off by sharing this: perpetrators have relied on the notion that the movement to stop them would not come together. They have depended on silence to keep doing what they do. The violence will not end overnight, but the barriers to ending it are coming down. Thank you for your role in it.

With hope,
