A Meaningful Week...and More to Come

Last week was truly extraordinary. Millions of people—an estimated 100 million viewers—watched the NO MORE PSA during all NFL games from Thursday though Monday on CBS, FOX, NBC and ESPN.

As Domestic Violence Awareness Month begins, I am filled with hope and encouraged that people everywhere are talking about violence and abuse. The goal of the NO MORE PSA campaign is to increase visibility and foster dialogue about domestic violence and sexual assault—to break the social stigma surrounding these issues and re-examine the attitudes and beliefs that blame survivors and excuse perpetrators. That's exactly what's happening.

I am heartened by the commitment of the NFL and every major broadcast network to continue the momentum by airing another NO MORE PSA—one of the four new spots produced in partnership with Viacom—during games this week. Directed by the Joyful Heart Foundation's Founder & President, Mariska Hargitay, and co-produced by Niels Schuurmans, Executive Vice President of Viacom Velocity Creative, the Viacom NO MORE PSAs feature our star-studded cast, as well as talent from across Viacom's brands. They have been airing across its networks, reaching vast new audiences with our message. Young & Rubicam's Rachel Howald is the executive creative director and writer for the spots, and renowned photographer Timothy White shot the stills for the campaign.

Earlier this week, I had the privilege of participating in a Viacom town hall conversation with Mariska, its CEO Philippe Dauman, the creative team behind the Viacom NO MORE PSAs and 200 of the company’s best and brightest staff to engage in creative thinking about what's next for the NO MORE PSAs. In Viacom’s own words, they, "pride [themselves] on being social disruptors, leading our industry peers in tackling difficult issues and turning moments into movements." This passion and conviction—and a steadfast commitment to change way the public views domestic violence and sexual assault—is shared by everyone at Viacom. It made for a remarkable conversation.

We find ourselves in a unique moment in time. Over the past few weeks, the nation has focused its attention on this issue at a level we've never seen before. Our collective awareness has never been higher. And throughout the month, national and local organizations will be hosting events to educate communities about this issue and how we can all support survivors.

Be a part of the movement to end domestic violence and sexual assault.
