I know that change is possible. I’ve seen it in myself and in others.

By reclaiming my story, I had the power to select my narrative. No longer was I allowing others to define me, instead I was defining myself.

Every day I heal in grand and small ways. My journey continues. And I know I am not alone in my pursuit.

A week ago, I received the most amazing gift. I was offered the chance to travel back in time, by participating in a week-long camp for young boys that have experienced abuse.

Pope Francis made some significant pronouncements this week about confronting a culture that allowed sexual abuse to run rampant in the Church. I and billions of Catholics and non-Catholics alike will “wait and see” if he actually seizes the opportunity to create a safer world for kids in a meaningful way.

More and more often it seems we are reading news about adult females “having sex” with teenage boys.

Growth and healing can be painful, but also immensely rewarding. I know my life will have many ups and downs, but as long as I keep listening and learning I know I will find a lot of happiness along the way.

A trigger is something that sets off a memory tape or flashback, transporting the person back to the event of his/her original trauma.

The best part is that means healing begins.
