Joyful Heart & Sugarfina partner for cross country Hearts Aflutter event

On February 8th, Joyful Heart's committees partnered with Sugarfina to host a fun evening of candy tasting and shopping for a cause.  Guests at this public event sipped sparkling water and champagne and sampled scrumptious champagne gummies, dark chocolate caramel hearts, butterfly gummies, and cherry heart gummies.  Thank you to Sugarfina for opening your hearts and stores in New York, San Francisco, Manhattan Beach, Beverly Hills, Pasadena and Honolulu.

GenerationJOY hosts first TALK event in NYC

GenerationJOY is a group of next generation advocates committed to using their voices and resources to support Joyful Heart’s vision of a world free from sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.

TALK NYC - American Girls: Social Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagers

On December 1, 2016, 40 members of our tri-state-based community gathered at the home of Joyful Heart board member Sukey Novogratz and her husband, Mike, for a TALK event. Nancy Jo Sales, author of American Girls: Social Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagers, discussed how social media shapes and influences the minds and hearts of young girls, and its connection to violence against women.

Sukey started the program by welcoming the guests, including fellow board members Jessica Ambrose, Durk Barnhill, Mariska Hargitay, Danielle Herzlich, and Debbie Millman.

The New York State Senate passed legislation, sponsored by Senator Steve Saland (R-I-C, Poughkeepsie) and Senator Martin Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), for the largest expansion of the state’s DNA databank since it was created in 1994. The legislation mirrors the databank expansion plan proposed by Governor Cuomo in his Executive Budget to require people convicted of all felonies, as well as all misdemeanors in the penal law to submit DNA samples.
